Pontoon boat tours on the Hackensack
01.09.11
Not long after the pontoon boat pulled away from the marina in Carlstadt , the bird spotting began. A blue heron standing tall amidst the reeds, a great egret perched on an old earth berm waiting for the tide waters to recede so that he could grab a meal and a great cormorant standing on a wooden piling with outstretched wings drying off in the morning sun.
The 2-hour boat ride, operated by the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC), takes passengers along the Hackensack River and its marshes. The NJMC is the zoning and planning agency for a 30.4-square-mile area along the Hackensack River covering parts of 14 municipalities in Bergen and Hudson Counties. The tour boats are staffed by experts on the natural and human history of the region and operated by staff who are certified in boating through programs by the U.S. Coast Guard and the State of New Jersey.

Express boat terminal fills up as week-long break ends
05.09.11
SIBU: Thousands of festive revellers and holidaymakers, back from the week-long break, jammed the express boat terminal here yesterday, turning it into a hive of human activities.
Women and children were seen cautiously disembarking from express boats in a bid to get home in time for school today.
Workers, too, joined the crowd, as today will be the start of a busy week.
Outside the terminal, dozens of taxi drivers waited patiently for prospective customers.
A glaring contrast to the situation a week ago where there were few activities and ticketing clerks were seen engrossed in reading newspapers.
The merry atmosphere was so noisy that it could easily exceed the threshold of 80 decibel as one could not hear the cellphone ringing.

Volunteers keep Let's Go Fishing on steady course
02.09.11
In terms of weather, the absolute, most perfect day of the summer happened to arrive on Tommy Tho-mpson’s 86th birthday. That was last Monday, and Thompson and friends knew how to enjoy it.
After a lunch at Melvin’s on the Lake in Spicer, Thompson and friends boarded a pontoon boat and enjoyed the sparkling sunshine and scenery as they cruised along the shoreline of Green Lake.
They were guests of the Willmar chapter of Let’s Go Fishing.
What attracted Thompson and his friends to Let’s Go Fishing was easy to explain.
“Getting out, and doing some of the things they’ve done in the past,’’ said Tammy Moll, activities director at Sunnyview Assisted Living, Atwater.
