31.12.69
At 1:45 a.m. on April 15, a 27-year-old woman from Cobb Street was walking near the intersection of Hancock and Finley streets when she was approached by a group of four young, black males. The group shoved her to the ground and forcefully took her purse, which contained her keys, debit card and mace. The group was described as young with short hair, thin build, and all were wearing white tee shirts and jeans. They were last seen running towards the downtown area.
ACCPD responded to an address on Fourth Street after complaints of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they made contact with the victim, a 43-year-old man from Augusta Avenue, who was bleeding from a head wound. He stated he had gone to the residence to visit a friend when he was approached by another man who told him to leave. When the victim started around the side of the house to get his bike and leave, the subject hit him in the back of his head with a handgun. Luther Favors, 60, Frederick Drive, Athens, was arrested following an investigation of the incident and charged with Aggravated Assault. A handgun, believed to have been used in the assault, was recovered from Favor’s vehicle.
