Highland Lakes drag-boat racers leaving competition in their wake

Heinecke first jumped into the sport in 1964 and raced into the 1980s.
Though he stepped out of drag-boat racing for a bit, he never lost the love for it and the people, which is one of the reasons Heinecke returned as an owner several years ago.
“I think that’s what is so great about this sport: the people,” Heinecke said. “Everybody cares for each other. You help each other out, even if they are competing against you. It’s a great family sport.”
Don’t take the family atmosphere and civility as lack of competitiveness.
“No, when you’re on the line, you want to win,” Kinsey said.
For Dulin and Heinecke, it often meant a showdown between their two boats in 2012.

Coyne vs. Oliveira in WBA 175 lb. eliminator on March 9th in Brooklyn, New York
31.12.69
The Coyne-Oliveira fight may not make it on the televised portion of the card, however, because the co-main event between Keith Thurman and Jan Zaveck and the Hopkins-Cloud fight appear to be the only ones HBO will be televising on that fight unless there’s a change of plans.
The winner of the Coyne vs. Oliveira fight will become the mandatory challenger for WBA light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov . That’s not exactly giving Shumenov a tough opponent because neither Coyne nor Oliveira look like world beaters despite both sporting unbeaten records. The light heavyweight division is so weak right now that you get fighters like Coyne and Oliveira with unbeaten records despite the fact that they’re less than dangerous.

'I remember when': Residents recall wedding day
31.12.69
Tyler Ward, Peterborough
My wife and I got married on Lake Winnipesaukee. After we said our vows, we hopped into my father-in-law’s 1989 Eliminator speed boat and flew at 60 miles per hour around the island with our “Just Married” flag flying. It really was a spectacular day.
Mardi Poliquin, New Ipswich
We eloped in New Ipswich on Beaver Pond with a justice of the peace. Then we took off and went to Carlisle Car Show down in Pennsylvania. That was our honeymoon. We love classic cars. My husband has fixed up a 1956 T-Bird for me, which is my birth year, and he has a 1951, Chevy Deluxe, which is his birth year. We had a great time, and it was a little different than everyone else’s honeymoon.
