Striped bass in various sizes, depending on the school, range 3 to 4 pounds and 9 to 12 pounds. Occasionally, fish to 17 pounds are in the mix.
Angling appears to be best on the San Joaquin River side in favorite haunts such as Three Mile Slough, Old River Flats, in a stretch of the main river from Eddo's to the Antioch Bridge and into the central Delta along Potato Slough.
Trollers run mainly deep-divers in Georgiana Slough, Mokelumne River and along Three Mile Slough and the area known as "peacocks."
Some boaters graph schools and drop spoons and jigs for nonstop action.
On the anchor, threadfin shad, shrimp and pile worms are key baits on the main San Joaquin River and on the Sacramento River side along Sandy Beach Regional Park, West Bank, Decker Island, Horseshoe and Collinsville - all below Rio Vista.

Delta
The spring run of striped bass still is coming in, with the numbers growing steadily and catch on the Delta improving. It slowed a bit over the weekend, but the water is clearing and warming, which is good news, according to Barry Canevaro with Fish Hookers Sportfishing in Isleton.
"I'd say we're about halfway through," Canevaro said. "The spawned-out fish are coming back in from downriver. I think it's only going to get better."
Trolling has been good near Decker Island and the Rio Vista bridge, and on the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers. Bait fishing near Santa Clara and San Andreas shoals also has been productive, and there have been a few black bass brought in on the San Joaquin River.

Delta
The water has cleared and the fishing is much better, but the coming promise of inclement weather could change everything.
The past few days have featured good times for anglers on the Delta, with the mud settling, the debris clearing out from past storms and the water turning a familiar shade of blue. Striped bass fishing has been strong with cut bait on the west bank near the Rio Vista bridge and under the bridge.
The black bass bite is much improved in the coves, aided by a soft current and higher waters. Try Brannon Island and Potato Slough. The sturgeon action has been steady in the area, and trolling for stripers has been good on the Sacramento River between Rio Vista bridge and Steamboat Slough.
