Visibility emphasised - Coroner
23.02.69
Drivers should make sure their vision from their vehicles is
the best it can be, and fit better or wider exterior mirrors
if towing, Otago-Southland coroner David Crerar has advised.
Mr Crerar's comments come in a finding into the death of
Dunsandel man Geoffrey Owen Hill, in Haven St, Moeraki, on
March 26 last year, when he was run over by a boat trailer
being towed by a four-wheel-drive utility.
After getting out of the utility, Mr Hill went around to the
rear to get gear out. He stumbled and was struck by the boat.
He fell under the wheels of the boat trailer as it pulled
away and was fatally injured.
Mr Crerar said Mr Hill's death would be even more of a
tragedy if nothing was learnt from it.

Dry Conditions Spur Water Worries At Reservoir
13.07.11
MADISON COUNTY, Miss. -- The water level at the Ross Barnett Reservoir is down about 6 inches from where it should be, reservoir officials said.
The heat and dry conditions have been blamed for the drop.
At the Madison landing on Wednesday, boaters had to back up at least 3 more feet than usual to get a boat off a trailer and into the water. Tamra Harding was taking her family up river, but she said she knew to look out.
"It is real shallow up by Flag Island. It is only about 3 or 4 feet deep," Harding said.
As the water levels drop in the reservoir, obstacles that are usually a few feet below the surface of the water are becoming a danger to boat bottoms.

CANBY -- Police are asking for the public's help in finding a drift boat and trailer that were reported stolen Tuesday from the Knights Bridge boat ramp .
The boat's owner, Mike Lostritto of Canby, said he had parked his Ford Expedition at the boat ramp, around 9:30 a.m. with the drift boat in tow.
"I pulled in to scout out the river because I'd never drifted it before," Lostritto said. "So I parked and hiked down to the water to look around. I was gone maybe a half hour, but when I got back it was gone."
The boat trailer had been unhitched from the Expedition.
Lostritto described the boat as a 2002 Diamondback drift boat, 15 feet, 8 inches long, silver and
