Boater swamped in Androscoggin River
23.02.85
RUMFORD — A quiet evening boat ride on the Androscoggin River didn't quite live up to expectations for a Mexico man Monday evening.
Carl L. Parise Sr., 46, of Mexico accidentally swamped his 16-foot aluminum motorboat shortly before 5 p.m. Parise was not hurt.
"I had just pushed my boat off the launch," Parise said, "when the boat tipped to the left and began filling with water."
Parise was able to swim in the 62-degree water about 20 feet to the boat launch. The boat continued to float downriver about 50 yards until it became wedged on the upstream side of a submerged rock, with the bow pointing skyward.
Parise may have lost the 25 horsepower Evinrude outboard engine attached to it.

Search effort scaled back for man missing in Snake River
23.02.26
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Idaho -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office is scaling back the search of a man still missing after a boating accident on the Snake River.
Deputies say at about 10:30 p.m. Friday, three men and a 2-year-old went fishing in a 14-foot aluminum boat. They anchored the boat, but that anchor became caught on something. The front of the boat was sucked into the water.
"It filled the boat up with water, which, in turn, sunk the boat. Right now, the water's actually lower. It's so low that it's moving really fast. And there's an undertow in this Snake River. It's just, it didn't give them a chance," said Washington County Chief Deputy Matt Thomas.

Aluminium trades up on international market
23.02.77
Aluminium yesterday traded with the positive node and settled 0.76% up at 118.6 after the US Department of Labor announced last Friday that the non-farm payrolls rose by 54k in May, much lower than the forecast of 150k.
The unemployment rate rose to 9.1% in May, a signal of bearish US job market. As a result, the US dollar index fell below 74, and commodity prices fell back as well. LME aluminum prices even dipped to a low of USD 2,607/mt.
Later, The US ISM announced the non-manufacturing index in May increased unexpectedly to 54.6, and the weaker US dollar index also helped boost investor confidence, with LME aluminum prices bouncing back in response.
LME aluminum prices struggled at the 5-day moving average last Friday and on Monday. Chinese markets were closed for the Dragon Boat Festival holiday on Monday, and LME aluminum prices fluctuated higher but failed to break through USD 2,670/mt due to a lack of transactions by Asian investors, with prices finally closing at USD 2,652/mt, up USD 13/mt.
