Dodson Wins Everstart Series Central Division Event on Bull Shoals
31.12.69
( Apr. 06, 2012 - BULL SHOALS, AR. )...Robbie Dodson of Harrison, Ark., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 14 pounds, 13 ounces Friday to win the EverStart Series Central Division event on Bull Shoals with a three-day total of 15 bass weighing 44 pounds, 1 ounce. For his victory, Dodson earned $22,026 and a Z518 Ranger boat with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard motor.
"It’s been a tough week,"said Dodson. "The lake dropped drastically each day and I had to run new water every day. I started in East Sugarloaf on day one, moved to West Sugarloaf on day two and today I fished Shoal Creek, I would start at the mouth of each creek, put my trolling motor down and fish

Fishing report: Week of April 4
31.12.69
Breaking in a new boat is definitely a long-term process. Learn about the boat, developing that final checklist for each time I take it out, what changes I need to make or add and all the little important things that are unknown until something goes wrong can add up to a year's worth of experience before all the bugs and a workable routine seem to get worked out.
I found, for example, that the routine I always used with my old 18-foot aluminum boat with a 4.3-liter inboard/outboard engine just didn't work with my new 21-foot fiberglass with a big 250-horsepower outboard and 9.9 kicker motor. Luckily, I've got some good mechanics who gave me some tips to keep the whole rig functioning -- and me from damaging it unintentionally.

Noted outdoorsman Hurd dies at 101
31.12.69
On April 1, Maine lost an extraordinary outdoorsman, Lawrence Hurd, who was 101 years old when he died at home in Bangor. In 2011, organizers of the Eastern Maine Sportsmen’s Show in Orono recognized Lawrence’s lifetime spent outdoors by dedicating the weekend show to him. He attended opening night, March 11, his 100th birthday, and everyone helped him celebrate.
Lawrence acquired many of his outdoor skills while growing up in Old Town — paddling, hunting and fishing on Sunkhaze Meadows. Oh, the stories he could tell and write about in letters he called Beaver Grams.
At age 85 in one Beaver Gram he wrote, “I worked at Old Town Canoe Co. from 1929-1936. When I first worked at the canoe shop we worked fifty-five hours a week, five hours on Saturday. Often after work some of us would go home, get our canoes, carry them to Indian Landing and at one or one-thirty we’d shove off. It took us about four hours to get to the Meadows, where we fished for trout. We’d have trout for supper, camp overnight near Ash Landing. We’d get up as day was breaking the next day and fish our way back down the Meadows and home.”

Houseboat Outboard Motors - remove replace diesel engines with outboards?

Houseboat Motors - remove replace diesel engines or outboards?
Looking at houseboats with outboard motors, should I remove or replace the diesel engines with twin outboards.
I'm glad I found this site, it was very helpful over the last 2 months while I was searching for a houseboat.?
I just purchased a 1971/1972 Whit-Craft houseboat, and she's in need of some TLC before I move aboard, but seems solid and I'm looking forward to making her my own.
The boat will be used mainly as a residence, but I'm going to have to make a decision down the line about the propulsion or engine power.
It currently has twin Perkins diesels (@160 hp each) that I was told may or may not run, and I won't be sad if they don't because I hate the smell of diesel and would love to have them removed asap if they are shot.
?I know these houseboats are heavy, high performance planing hulls and I would like to add a motor bracket and hang twin outboards.
A few people I've talked to say it can't be done. I'm thinking 250 hp w/ 30" shafts and big props may work. I will be living on it, and would only need power occassionally.?
I look forward to your suggestions, Scott, Jacksonville, Florida

Well Scott, congratulations on buying yourself a houseboat, and good luck with any future projects.
In regards to doing a major engine or propulsion overhaul, or in your case, a major retrofit, you have to weigh all of the pros & cons.
