Burloak Canoe Club to host open house April 14

NORTH OAKVILLE TODAY - Burloak Canoe Club (BCC), the country’s leading sprint canoe/kayak club, announced its 2012 Summer Program and open house/registration dates.
BCC will kick off its Olympic year with Open Houses and Registration sessions on Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, May 6 from 10 am until 1 pm both days at the Burloak Canoe Clubhouse located at 160 Water Street in Oakville.
Members of the public are invited to stop by anytime during either session to learn more about the variety of world-class sprint canoe/kayak programs offered by the club for all ages and skill levels, including:
• Elementary (Ages 8+) and Developmental (Ages 14+): Summer-long programs designed to introduce and develop students in the sport of canoe/kayak at a competitive level.

Only in open-boating can weekend warriors in over-sized Old Towns rub shoulders with world champion freestyle paddlers, sponsored video boaters and cutting-edge designers in nine days of revelry to kick off the paddling season. The event is Ain’t Louie Fest (ALF), a loosely organized affair that wrapped up this week with a nebulous history that brings hundreds of whitewater canoeists to the rivers of the Southeast. “We’ve got some of the most iconic people in open-boating and everybody gets to paddle with them,” says Knoxville, Tenn., native and canoeing phenom Dooley Tombras.
