<strong><span class="subhead">Missouri</span></strong></p><p>•<strong>TABLE ROCK: </strong> 68, slightly dingy, 12 1/2 feet high. <strong>Outlook: </strong>White River Lodge reports: smallmouth bass excellent on 4-inch plastic grubs in 28 to 32 feet of water off gravel points near the dam; black bass excellent on football jigs off the points in the river arms.</p><p>•<strong>JACOMO: </strong> 67 degrees, clear, normal. <strong>Outlook: </strong>Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: bluegills excellent on crickets, redworms in the shallows; channel catfish good at night on cut bait off points; crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows in main-lake brush.</p><p>•<strong>JAMES A. The fishing for both smallmouth and largemouth bass is rated as excellent this week. Try the deep gravel points near the dam for smallmouths. Hit the points in the river arms for largemouths.</p><p></div>

Have bass overtaken trout?

It's time to think bass, both smallmouth and largemouth.
Without a doubt, the smallmouth now rivals trout in popularity. Bass season for both smallmouth and largemouth opens of June 18 this year, and although it usually doesn't attract the attention as trout season does, the amount of anglers targeting bass has grown in popularity.
This year, especially due to the high waters during the past two months, it slowed the number of days trout anglers spent on the water. But as the status of smallmouth bass has risen, their numbers have declined on some of our better rivers.
