ALLPHIN: What's a fish to do?
23.02.86

A fish swam into a local sporting goods store to find something
to eat. Once in the fishing department he let out a bubbly gasp of
amazement at the selection before him. Baits and lures of all
sizes, shapes, and colors were neatly positioned on walls, tables
and in display cases, just waiting for him to choose his meal.
"This is going to be fun," he thought. "With all this food at
the tips of my fins, where should I begin?"
He entered the spinner bait isle and he stopped, suspended right
in front of a twenty-foot section of lures.
"Wow," he thought, "I see perch, brown trout, rainbow trout and
all of my favorite minnows. They all look so good... which one
should I eat?"

Fishing with Feet in Moore Lake Beats the Heat
23.02.15
The shores of Moore Lake could be Fridley's coolest outdoor spot on what is sure to be the hottest day of the year so far.
It helps if you wade in up to your calves, as Dan Barger did Tuesday morning, the second day of an excessive heat advisory that includes Fridley .
"This is my spot," Barger said, as he cast a fishing line about 30 feet out. "There's a nice breeze. You don't even feel the heat."
Then, lifting his shirt to reveal a bright red, two-day-old sunburn, he added: "That's the problem. It's really dangerous, if you're afraid of (sunburn)."
The danger for most people not ankle-deep in Moore Lake, according to the National Weather Service, is that the combination of heat and humidity create conditions for heat-related illness. The NWS's heat advisory is in effect through 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Take a kid fishing
03.06.11
If you have a child in your life, do the child and yourself a
favor and take them fishing.
You'll never have a better opportunity than next weekend's (June
10-13) Free Fishing Days. No fishing license is required during the
weekend.
You aren't an angler?
Don't worry, it's not that complicated.
Take the youngster to the nearest bait shop and buy a cheap rod and
reel. Back when my kids were young the cheapest equipment was
usually adorned with pictures of Mickey Mouse or Snoopy. Today's
generation of beginner equipment probably carries a picture of
SpongeBob SquarePants.
The only other equipment you'll need are a couple of small hooks,
some small split shot (weights) and a couple small bobbers. Do not
buy the tennis ball size bobbers or big hooks, that's
counterproductive.
